In my opinion, it's not 0.1, and there are arguments for and against.
First of all, your post is right for two reasons. First, even if the advice you mentioned is effective, it can sometimes be completely misleading to someone who is in a different place than we are. They've either passed that stage or are just about to. Second, as a friend of mine said, our destinies are like pebbles that you push into a hole – you don't know how their path will unfold or whether they'll even reach their destination. That's how our lives are.
On the other hand, there are also external factors that motivate us. The advice about hard work is valid here, because many people (and the trend is unfortunately growing) don't want to work. And there is something to work on – as you said, each of us has certain traits that harm the collective and the individual... They don't always provide even lasting benefits.
This is a broad topic, and in my opinion, it's worth maintaining a balance.
