How good is this iconic muscle car 1965 Shelby GT350 heading to auction through RM Sotheby's during its Arizona Sale? I love this classic livery Wimbledon White with the traditional Guardsman Blue stripes... And you ?
In 1964, Ford had a huge success with its new Ford Mustang, but realized that they need to have a muscle model in order to compete in the US SCCA in the B production category, because at this time :
"Winning races on Sunday is selling cars on Mondays."
Ford asked to Carroll Shelby, winning partner of many races with his Ford-powered Cobra, to modify a Mustang. The first prototype Shelby GT 350 are made in December 1964 by Shelby American. Two versions were produced :
With Borg-Warner T10 4 speed transmission and 715 cfm Holley carburetor, the engine produces more than 300 hp and can reach the 100 kmh in just 6.5 seconds. This model was painted in Wimbledon White, with Guardsman Blue stripes with Cragar five-spoke wheels made exclusively for Shelby.
Thanks to more than 1,300 hours of restoration work by Shelby expert Paul鈥檚 Engineering (Ohio), the interior is splendid with the 15 inch wood-rimmed steering wheel and the original dashboard.
