On a web site called “How To Fix 26 World Problems”, I began to explore and explain how we begin to Fix these Issues. After writing about just one of the 26, I became Remorseful, Regretful, Repentant, Reclusive, Rueful and Resentful, all at the same time.
No one has the time to get involved.
If they do have the time, most likely they are closer to being poor rather than the opposite, and must join in the daily struggle to survive.
For those Inbetweens, roughly 78% of the world's population that are squarely in the middle of the wealth/poverty curve, too many have secummed to the propaganda we face everyday – namely that Technology and Science will definitely fix everything for us, given enough time.
Our Food will come out of a test tube, our Energy from limitless non-polluting low-cost sources, and our personal 3D printers will make everything that China does for us today.
Our Social issues  - the wars, conflicts, crime, and terrorism, for example, will all be Fixed by applying the right tools at the right time.
Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg believes his purchase of Oculus – a VR company for $2 billion in 2014 will allow his company to become a mechanism for better communications – we could be in a room with someone half way around the world and it would seem like we were just chatting together face-to-face across the table in front of us.
Now I agree with him that it will be better than staring at a passive TV screen for hours, but really now, Virtual Friends?
NO, we need REAL face-to-face. To get together in our small communities where we live, where we know practically everyone, where our friends and neighbours are often our workmates, a place where we can enjoy their company, Share our food with them at times, and feel safe and secure knowing they will be there in times of need or disaster.
Technology will not solve the problems we face. In fact if we continue down the AI path, we most likely will be equipping the next Species on the evolutionary ladder such that we will become extinct – no more Homo Sapiens!
Please realize that I am not a Luddite. I have lived almost all of my life in the shadow of computers.
I was led to believe in the '70's that by the year 2000 we would reach the Golden Years – with flying cars, unlimited, safe, clean Nuclear energy, with machines doing all or almost all of the work for us. And what did we get? A media hyped-out-of-proportion Y2K issue that failed to deliver on it's promise to halt Financial and other key systems at the millennial change.
No, Technology only exacerbates, it only makes things worse in my opinion. Why? Because we live in the Profitability Era, where we must continue to grow. Where we must make money or perish. Technology is driven, in part by grants from companies with deep pockets. As a result we end up with  not what is really Needed. 21% of the worlds population  - those below the poverty line Need Food, clean Water, Shelter, Clothing and Energy -  not planning seminars, Think Tanks, endless meetings, Conferences, they have no need for Space exploration right now, and certainly not Financial exploitation creating wealth out of thin air.
Our world issues will disappear when we move from Competition to Co-operation.

I really look forward to any thoughts you may have on this topic, I must admit to a complete 180 degree reversal in my thinking shortly after the turn of the century.
