What happened?
I will tell you what happened. The enemy is subtle, cunning and does not openly reveal himself when he comes to attack the believer. He comes like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Wolves are quite opposite to sheep in behaviour and way of life and the enemy knowing that he will easily be identified he comes in his true identity will use something else he knows will be able to deceive you.
The sheep's clothing here could be friends, people very close to you, loved ones, people you trust, things you love just in an effort to deceive you and cause your spiritual fall. It starts slowly in a way that might look okay and not harmful. As time passes by, you sink even deeper and deeper and no matter what you do, it seems impossible to turn back. Scripture describes him as a roaring lion seeking for whom to devour and once you give him that opportunity, you will be devoured completely before you know it.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour
At this point repentance is considered and regret sets in but the shame and what people will say was another thing. So, the devil presents another route of escape which is abortion and that is what so many people chose. Once you start falling into his scheme, at first it might present itself as okay but in due time you realize you made a grave mistake. This is just an exemplary scenario of what truly happens. It all starts with a small falling away and what follows next will be a mouth opener. Christians must therefore put on the whole armour of God and be vigilant. We must not be ignorant of the devices of the enemy because no matter how strong you might think you stand, a small opening is all it takes and you come crushing down.
1 Corinthians 10:12
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
How are the might fallen in this last days. Nonetheless, there is still hope for the Word makes us to understand that the righteous falleth seven times and they rise again. Even though it may seem impossible to turn back, that is just another lie the enemy puts in your head to keep you in that sinful estate. Christ is always the way out and it starts with acknowledging your fallen estate and finding your way back to your former estate through repentance and rededication.
