Crochet 101: Another Crochet Pattern and the Story Behind It

I am here again to share with you another crochet written pattern I recently made.
Around January of 2022, the idea of making a dress crossed my mind. I had several design ideas, that I couldn't decide which one to go for. I even made a poll through an Instagram Story to help me choose!
After contemplating on it, I finally came up with a solution for my dilemma. Haha. I had this very promising idea for the upper chest/strap part of the dress, which got me super excited to work on this big big project! In just a couple of days, I already finished the body and skirt part of my maxi dress.
Now, this is when I faced another hiccup, which made me almost give up on this initially enticing project.
Working on the strap design I originally planned eventually frustrated me. No matter what I would do, it just wouldn't sit well with the rest of the dress. There was something off about it, but I couldn't figure out what.
I thought, maybe the width of the strap, so I made it thicker. Still, nah. So I blamed my yarn color choice. I told myself that it was not the right color for this project...that if only I chose a different one, it would have looked nicer. Well, that was the thought I kept on holding on to to pacify myself.
Eventually, the dress ended up sitting in a box for more or less 5 months, untouched. I was already in the verge of ripping the whole thing off and just use the yarn for a different project.
My Mama witnessed how I started working on the dress, as well as the progress I've had with it. Hence, there were countless times that she would ask me if I finished it already.
Everytime this conversation would come up, I would always tell her that I wouldn't continue making it anymore, and would unravel the whole thing instead. She highly disagrees with my plan, and would tell me to just give her the dress if I don't want it.
One night, in the earlier part of June, she once again brought this topic up, which was already starting to tire me. To convince her that the dress wasn't worth keeping, I decided on showing it to her again and even made her try it on. But instead of finally agreeing with my plan, I was the one whose decision changed. HAHA
While looking at Mama happily checking the dress through the mirror, it seemed like I saw the dress in a different light. It sparked something in me again, which made me swallow my words. At that moment, I decided to give this overdue project another chance to live, hence the name, Renée, which means, reborn.
Coming up with another design for the upper chest part of Renée was still a struggle the second time around. But this time, I was more motivated and inspired to actually finish it. After a few days, I finally completed this baby.
I honestly learned so much from this experience, not only with the designing process, but also with how we face life and the struggles that come with it.
It is okay to feel frustrated when our plans don't work well. It is okay to take a break from it or even give up on it, BUT do so only after making sure that you've done everything you could to make it work. Honestly, if I ripped off Renée, I think part of me would regret it in the future. As they say, some failed plans actually trigger better results.
Also, another important lesson here is that it pays to listen to our (sometimes stubborn) mothers. HAHAHAHA
As of writing this, Renée is in its testing phase. The pattern will be released around mid or late July. :)
