I am not very adventurous when it comes to.... anything. I tend to just go with my usuals or something safe. This is true even with my wardrobe. I stick to plain, neutrals or anything not too striking because when I am out, I want to blend, and not stand out.
One time, when my fashionista friend and I visited a park, there were pop-up booths that were selling different products, including clothes. We looked around until we spotted this booth with thrifted shorts. We "hunted for treasures," and there were honestly a lot of good stuff. One item that my friend handed me was this white bottoms with buttons lined up in front. At first we thought it was a skirt, but when we checked the back, we learned that it was actually shorts! We found it sooo cool. Haha.
My friend liked it, but it was quite loose on her. So of course she made me try the skort on and it fit me so well. Haha Since a skort is not really part of my usual go-to outfit, I was a bit hesitant at first. It was cute and decent, but I wasn't too confident that i'll pull it off. In the end, she won, and I brought the skort home.
I am honestly glad I listened to her because I ended up loving the skort. It gives me this feminine feeling without being too conscious in moving around. Ever since, I have been eyeing different skort designs and wanted to purchase another pair. For some reason, I haven't really done so. Haha
When I started making my own clothes through crocheting, one of the first project ideas on my list was, of course, a skort. It took me a while to visualize and figure out how to construct the skort, but I am happy and proud that I finally did!!!
Reese is a skort with a garter at the back part of the waistband, and a flap that connects to the shorts with a tie on the side. A special feature of this skort is its secret pocket, where bills, IDs, or cards may be stored.
I named this piece, Reese, and since I make a big deal with the names of my designs, of course, there is a meaning or story behind this name choice.
While looking back to the crochet clothes I freehanded/designed so far, I realized that they all start with either M or R (Rebecca, Mellow, Matilda, Renee). Those letters are the start of my nickname and name, respectively. I wanted to continue the unplanned self-trend, and decided to name the skort with something that starts with either letter as well. It took days of reflecting, thinking, and researching before I got settled with the name, Reese.
Reese is a gender-neutral name. I thought that that alone is already a good representation for a skort, which is basically a shorts (often associated with boys) and a skirt (often associated with girls). Reese means fiery, enthusiastic, or ardent, which also reflect how I was and am towards this project. Lastly, the color that I used for my Reese skort reminds me of Reese's chocolate. HAHAHA
I am really happy with how this project turned out.
