Web 3.0- It evolution leading the world to a brighter space
Before the world wide web (www) people primarily relied on other forms of communication and information-sharing like printed materials, online services, usenet, email and gopher. This methods helped provide us ways to exchange informations and also communicate but at the same time they were very limited in providing the interconnectedness the world really need. Let us talk about some of this method of information and Communication and their limitations.
- Usenet is a decentralized distributed discussion system it was created in 1979 by two students of Duke University, Jim Ellis and Truscott.
Usenet was built in a way that users can engage in discussions sharing formations and exchange files. A newsgroup was built on usenet where users can post and read messages. Usenet also have some limitations.
Let's discuss about them;
. Usenet lack the multimedia capacity that web have today. It is faced with a lot of sperm and low quality content issues because of not having a standard mechanism for moderation. It also lack efficiency search and Discovery mechanism so there are no provision for finding and discovering a particular topic.
- Printed Materials: Even before the initiation of usenet in 1979, printed materials like newspaper, magazines, books and pamphlets were being used to share information and to communicate with others. It has served humans for years and have been very helpful, but at the same time it has its limitations.
Here are some of it limitations;
. Limited interaction one if the challenges, because users don't have the opportunity to directly engage and interact with the content and multimedia elements
. Distribution and accessibility was also a common problem some of these publications we are not might not reach a global audience in time and most of the times because of the cost and transporting a two different locations it becomes very costly making it difficult for many to buy.
. Limited search of contents is also another challenge, because not all the incidence are being recorded on printed materials, even when many are being recorded finding a specific information becomes a challenge because of its time consuming. One have to manually search for them before finding them.
. Satisfying the worlds need also became a problem. When there is much demand of a particular goods or products there is always a high possibility that the price will increase. So in order to satisfy the world's need those printed materials may lact quality and at the same time the price may go up.
So the need for the better way to get information and to interact with the public was needed.
The Arrival of Web
In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee created something which supersede all means of information sharing and communication. He created a web server, not only that but he also went further to develop the foundational technology like HTML (hypertext markup language), HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol), and the URL (uniform resource locator) system that form the true basis of world wide web.
Since then the world when we continue to evolve significantly let us talk about it evolution.
After Tim Berners-Lee created the first world wide web in 1990 then in the late 90s and early 2000 an advanced future of HTML was introduced, and in the same time JavaScript was also introduced. This made possible for a dynamic content and for an interactive website.
Then in mid 2000's and in the late 2000's something amazing happened, web 2.0 was introduced this Mark a shift towards generated content and social interactions. With web 2.0 of the social platform we have today came into existence like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and lots of them web 2.0 really made a lot of things possible it allowed for a smooth faster and interactive web applications.
Web continue to evolve and in 2010 more web frameworks and libraries gain popularity, making it easier to build complex web applications. From 2010 to now we have seen how web continued to evolve, more applications for easy accessibility have been built. More social platforms have come into existence. Web keep changing for the better bringing reacher multimedia experience and improved accessibility.
But still some far more better was on the way, web 3.0.
The internet has evolutionized into web 3.0 which is characterized by decentralized architecture enabled by blockchain technology. Unlike web 2.0, web 3.0 has created a more open, secure and user-centric online experience by eliminating the need for intermediaries and making users to have more control over their information and data.
The concept of web 3.0 is closely associated with decentralized applications(Dapps), cryptocurrencies, smart contracts which runs on blockchain,networks. Web 3.0 has changed the way people consume information and entertainments. It has the potential to and has reshaped various industries beyond just finance.
Web 3.0 is addressing several limitations of the current web 2.0 such as centralisation of power, privacy and digital ownership.
In conclusion, before the web's initiation people relied on other source for information and interactions. Those source were not bringing satisfaction but web changed how we receive information and how we interact with each other.
Thankfully, today we have web 3.0 which has revolutionised the internet. It has decentralized the web making it easier and enjoyable for people earthwide, it has solved some of web 2.0 limitations, taking us to a more brighter space.
