When Adam and Eve became naked after eating the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, the bible says they sewed fig leaves to cover themselves. (Gen 3:7)
But when God came to them, He provided a more permanent and protective solution for their nakedness.
".....the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and Eve." Gen 3:22
But my question is this, which animal did God used its skin to make the cloths? Just ponder over this for another discussion.
You will therefore agree with me that God killed/sacrificed an animal in the garden before using the skin for clothing, isn't it?
Which means that a blood was shed, right? OK.
From the beginning of man's existence, God started using the blood of animals to solve the problem of sin but that could not make man holy as God wanted it. Why?
Because according to Hebrews 9:13
"Under the old system [OT], the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow could cleanse people's bodies from ceremonial impurity".
The blood of animals only cleanse the body of the sinner but God needed something that can cleanse the soul of a sinner. This is because when a man sins, it is the soul of the man that suffers not the body. It is the soul that is dead not the body. So God wanted a blood that can cleanse the soul and bring it back to life.
God therefore realised that sinners needed something more than the blood of mere goats and bulls because sinners were created in the image of God.
"For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins". Heb 10:4
So you see, no matter the number of animals (goats and bulls) we killed, our sins were not removed. It meant that in the old system, sinners and the people of Israel died in their sins, in fact they died with their sins even though the blood of animals were used to cleanse them.
So God needed a blood that can take the sins of the past, present and future away and that is where Jesus Christ comes in.
Let us take note that it takes something Holy to make the unholy holy, and that is why for Jesus to be born Holy, Gid had to put some measures in place first. Lk 1:35
The Holy Spirit came upon the virgen Mary.
The power of the Most High overshadowed her.
So from His birth, Jesus Christ was made holy and He was uncorrupted by the sinful blood of Mary.
Even though Mary carried him in her womb for nine months, she did not pass on to the baby Jesus any of her genetical traits.
Jesus Christ therefore did not inherit anything from Mary and that is why the bible says He was Holy.
THE BLOOD OF JESUS CLEANSE US FROM SINS
The blood of animals did not make us holy because it could not take away our sins.
But God brought Jesus Christ whose blood was capable of taking the sins away and making us holy as well in the sight of God.
"But if we are living in the light, as Gid is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sins". 1Jn 1:17
This is why Jesus came to die on the cross. God needed the holy blood of his Son to wash away the sins of men.
So God used the blood of Jesus as an ANTI-VIRUS to kill (wash) the VIRUS of Sin.
Heb 13:12
"So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood".
This is a good news for all sinners both those of the past and now.
Because even our ancestors, Adam and Eve could not get this opportunity
So just as in the past goats and bulls were slaughtered for the sins of men, Jesus Christ was killed on the cross, but this time round his blood is able to do what that of the animals couldn't.
"For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness". Heb 9:22
So brethren if we repent from our sins and come to Jesus, he has the antivirus that can kill (wash) the virus of sin in our soul.
