To keep up with my wife's social needs, of which hers are thankfully quite simple, we visited the Taiwanfest in downtown Vancouver today.

It was hot out, so we just took in a couple of activities, and then packed it in. We first went to the "Kitchen of Sweetness", where we observed a woman laying out how she made her sweet foods based on concepts. She is Taiwanese, and she has visited many places in the world, and garnered inspiration from those places and made up a sweet dish based on her experience.

For example, she visited Galiano Island here in BC, and from that experience she crafted a dish based on the concept of Sun, or Sea, or Forest. And apparently she makes all of her food without eggs and dairy, and yet they are rich and flavorful. I wish I had a photo to show you, but alas I ate the evidence, it was so delicious!

Our second item of interest was learning some simple origami. My wife saw all the information in our local newspaper, clipped out the schedule of events and chose this as our second venture. We learned to make a cat, a bunny and balloons. I'm better at it than I gave myself credit for!

Tomorrow night is another adventure to wrap up our long weekend!
