Let me share to you my design for Xabber, an open source app.
Details
The word Xabber came from combining XXPP and Jabber. This open source jabber client supports multi-account and provides clean and simple interface. It is available for Android devices.
Proposed Versus Official Icon
Since the official icon shows an Earth-like figure, I will be using a globe to represent it on my proposed icon.
Concept
It is a combination of globe and a stack of paper which symbolizes the multiple accounts supported by this app. In replacing the sphere by the stack of paper, I intentionally distort it's alignment to support a circular form.
Alternative Backgrounds
The first background composing of blue to represents bodies of water and green for land. The next background is the colors of sunset which are the orange and yellow. Last background is combination of blue and violet to portray the dawn.

The font style I use in the presentation is "Tahoma".

I created a new design icon with my ideas and provided vector files so anyone can download and edit.
