I was going through a large sack of old, dusty potatoes that I had just purchased and I noticed one that stood out from all the others. When I held it up, I saw that it had taken the shape of a perfect heart! It wasn’t a glossy heart, but rather one that was rough, with many little callouses, some loose skin, and speckled with bits of earth. It looked like a real heart, formed by the earth itself.
I smiled. It was so cute and humble, the way nature can make its own little reminder show up during our everyday lives.
It made me take a moment to realize that sometimes, we overlook all the cute things that are around us. We can find beauty even in the smallest things, even in a bag of groceries. I think I’ll put the funny looking heart-shaped potato on my counter for a while. I don’t plan to cook it, but rather to keep it as a small, daily reminder to keep my eyes peeled, because magic truly is all around us if we only take the time to look for it.
