Salma Akhter Shimul has been elected as the first woman mayor of Tangail's Mirzapur municipality by a huge margin of votes. He got 12,046 votes with the boat symbol. His nearest rival Shafiqul Islam Farid got 2,924 votes with the symbol of paddy.
According to the Upazila Election Office, 15,905 out of 22,349 voters have exercised their voting right in 10 centers in 9 wards. The turnout was 81 percent.
