My husband and I were carp fishing on the banks of the Snake River in Eastern Washington some years ago in mid-summer, and the dragonflies were everywhere! Like little flying jewels, they flitted here and there, and some even landed very close to us, unafraid.

I tend to gravitate toward mixed media. I often begin sketching in ballpoint pen or pencil (which I then flesh out with ballpoint pen), then I use my watercolor paints or my watercolor brush pens. I use water brushes for all my blending purposes. Sometimes, depending on the piece, I will use watercolor pencil as well, to flesh out the color; sometimes I blend it with water, and sometimes I leave it as pencil for a different texture. On other pieces I have used charcoal, pastel, and fountain pen ink. It is always an adventure.
