Unfortunately most of last week I wasn't feeling great but what's fortunate is that I live in Lagos State, Nigeria. Everything and anything goes when it comes to Lagos because day in day out, there's a thriving street life.
Although I wasn't feeling too good, I had quite a memorable week. The first was that I unfortunately had to deal with an almost unending catarrh, but somehow I had to go for two different job interviews.
This is tricky because unlike other things, catarrh is something you can't hide. It sticks to you like glue or that toxic girlfriend who just won't let you breathe.
I almost got tired of people constantly asking me if I had catarrh because dhurrr馃檮, it literally announces itself to everyone by constantly threatening to run down my nose.
I had the first interview and I was looking as sharp as possible and I could've bet I looked even better than James Bond in suit. But this catarrh was set to embarrass me and I wasn't about to give it the chance to do that.
How wrong I would be
Lol try keeping a straight face in an interview when you're worried that you might sneeze anytime soon. Fortunately they were understanding and didn't think much of it, but there was one particularly beautiful lady who was looking at me with pity.
In all, I thought the first one went well. I was more than happy when I discovered that the second one would be done online. Nothing like catarrh to put the fear of your prospective employers in you.
I did a particularly ridiculous dance to celebrate not having to go out for the interview. Pity that no one caught the dance on video, it would've been on the top funny videos of the year.
I'm not an outgoing freak, but I love Lagos because of its night life. Last week though I couldn't stay out much because I kept on getting unsolicited advice from everyone around me.
You hear things like You probably got a catarrh because you love staying out in the cold at night. I was almost going crazy hearing the same thing from everyone. What has going out at night got to do with having a big of a cold and catarrh?.
I visited a friend over the weekend and the first thing I got was
Friend: Do you have catarhhh?
Me: Yes, how did you know?
Friend: I heard it in the sound of your voice
I'm like nahhhh, it's enough of the catarhhh traumatic experience. How do you even visit a therapist and explain you're suffering from Post Traumatic Catarrh Disorder PTCD
Ahhhh 馃I almost forgot, Nigerians never visit the head doctors for any form of therapy (we'd rather die than allow people assume we've got a few screws loose up there 馃槀馃槀).
The only way you'd catch me in therapy is if you dragged me half dead there.
Anyways it wasn't an all round traumatic week as the catarhhh gave me an excuse for premium babying from a particularly beautiful young lady. I wouldn't mind having catarrh all year round just to get some more baby boy treatment.
