There used to be a time when we'd look at adults with longing and wish we'd grown big like them, go anywhere you wished, have as much fun as you want and eat as much ice cream as you wanted without anyone stopping you.
Now I'm an adult and I wished I'd paid more attention.
I had to go pick up a few clothes from a friend who's a tailor a few days back, although there were others closeby who could've done the job. I'm an advocate for supporting close friends in their business whenever you know you can.
It would take me fifteen to twenty minutes of walking to get there and with my country currently facing high fuel prices, walking was the way forward. The weather was a bit cloudy when I left but it was still predominantly a clear sky.
Few minutes into my walk, the rain started to fall. Normally I would've found somewhere to stop and wait till it abates, but I thought in my mind Not today.
Why? simply because I was enjoying the cool breeze and the joyful feeling of getting soaked.
Although a few people like me were under the rain, I got a lot of stares simply because I was walking with no sense of urgency whatsoever.
To those who were running and trying to escape the rain, I was probably acting like a kid.
I realized in that moment that it had been awhile since I last had so much fun. Not partying kind of fun, but just natural fun as I was used to growing up and I'd seriously missed it.
What had changed? It was our concept of adulthood.
There's just so much going on around us, family, friends, work and survival that there's almost no time for fun. Even when we want to have fun, there are certain things that's off the table.
From the stares I'd gotten, It seemed even walking happily under the rain was seen as weird.
Only my oblivious approach made me enjoy what I was sure many others wanted to do, but we're too sensitive to people's opinion to try. I wish everyone would just have fun like children sometimes and forget about what others would think.
I almost caught a cold, but it was worth the fun I had.
