This is my witness thread that is detailing my endeavours in contributing to the steem blockchain.
Witness Setup
- Absolute minimum RAM 16GB
- Official Stack on GitHub
- READ the /doc/building.md and /doc/testing.md files after you clone to get a sense of setup routines
- Always pay attention to your working directory, this is the folder you are currently in and makes a difference!
I've used Linux for years but not docker or steem so I'm mentally mapping out the admin configuration as I go along.
There are several docker programs out there that will do many of the organizing tasks for you as you build the system but for myself I like to know exactly what is going on and not rely on some random code from some random person. I don't like to see errors and I don't like to be limited in my commands. That being said I think Docker is a great program.
I have also been starting to look at the documentation on running a full-node server, and assessing the benefits of running a 128GB Ram server. Minimum requirement for a full-node steem server is 65GB RAM!
Something valuable to brush up on are your linux admin skills.
You should be comfortable navigating a remote file system through ssh.
If you don't know how to run an executable file them look into that and try to write things down so you have a handy reference when working in the terminal.
Always take your time and explore the system you are creating to make sure you comprehend at least some of what is going on. This will help you to become a better developer in time and you will have more control over your system.
I also have a forum server set up at discord.
Anyone is welcome to join and talk about stuff.
Update My endeavours in setting up a witness server have been validated and verified, I am currently waiting to catch my first block and the server is running perfectly.
Peace
