Another week, my last of the working year and another 7 beers from the Advent calendar of beers. I must admit this week was tough, we were out almost ever night, so we got a little behind, but then it was my brother to the rescue to help us catch-up on Saturday as the first of our family Christmas functions happened.
But let's see what we had this week...
From a brewery that sounds more like a clothing label that would be worn by accountants when going to a BBQ comes Sunday Road's Deck the Hops (see what they did there?) - I didn't have high hopes for this but I was wrong, so very very wrong - It Smells amazing fruity and joyous and tastes just as good refreshing fruity a hint of sweetness. Maybe those accountants know what they are doing.
This one I did have very high hopes for - When I see One Drop (who like Sunday Road are also from Sydney Australia) I know that it's going to be amazing, because, well that's what they do. This promised to be a Raspberry hefeweizen which is not a style I would normally crave but it's One Drop - so I'm willing to give it a try (and let's face it I have to, as is the concept of an advent calendar with beers in it). It was a pretty good beer - there was a hint of red in the colour otherwise a hazy hefe the raspberry is a little too prominent for my liking. There is a hint of banana but it鈥檚 in the aftertaste more than anything. It works and it鈥檚 enjoyable but really it just made me long for a good classic Hefeweizen.
And that ended our during the week drinking. Now My Brother is also doing this advent calendar and through the wonders of untappd he knew we were days behind so there was a call to bring them to his house on Saturday to make combine with his for the first of our Family Christmas dinners (It's complicated as most families are).
So let's see what we had
A doubled version of Hargreave's Hill (just outside of Melbourne) of their already very good ESB - this was a malt driven beauty and perfect for Christmas.
And Noel Noir from Cheeky Monkey Brewery (in Western Australia, Margaret River to be exact) which my neices found very funny as they seem to like to pretend I'm a Monkey (The best version of this game is when I have to stay in my cage, which is actually a very nice hanging egg chair, the worse versions have them climbing all over me) Now the beer is exactely what you think it is a big dark monster of a beer, suited to desert and when paired with Cherry sorbert it was amazing.
So there we are another week closer to Christmas, another 7 beer closer to Christmas and another Beer Saturday post completed.
