As promised I'm continuing the military theme from earlier in the week. In the first post I told you how I turned a Stars Wars lego set into a tank. This time I'm taking another of the Lego Movie tie ins and turning it into this fancy army transporter thingy.
Now the original set in question is a Avengers set called Captain America versus Hydra and you can see the official Lego picture below
Now I have no real interest in the Avengers and I picked up this set amongst a bulk buy - I think I got 5 sets for $60 or something like that and my original plan was to resell this set on Bricklink or Ebay or something but the then it sort of gnawed at me, I thought - if you take away all the stupid looking minifigs the motorcycle and the yellow stripes that could actually make a pretty cool generic army vehicle.
So that's exactly what I did. It was all pretty simple actually, everytime I came up against something that was brightly coloured I subsitited something more camo into the mix.
So the bright yellow grab handles underneath became light grey. The yellow stripes on the front became dark green. The stripes on the top observation point are stickers which the previous kid didn't stick on, same deal with the red octopus thing, and looking at the photo now I realise he put the '65' at the wrong spot as well. And the last colour change - Blue lights on guns might be okay for super heroes but the army doesn't have that sort of bling.
Oh and a second big long aerial, because, I had two and they look cool.
The Minifigs was going to be a little harder until I remembered that I have a couple of different Endor sets, and the rebels in endor are basically a close as you are going to get to a Lego Army man.
And as a added bonus the top section spins around (on a very next big black spinner and the cannons do shoot out if required.
All in all I think it works reasonably well and I don't think you would know the origins of the original vehicle unless you were quite a big Avengers fan.
