Lego has a VIP program, which is a loyalty program by any other name. Occasionally they release sets that are exclusive to VIP members. This is one of those set. In the lead up to Christmas they figure that a lot of people will be buying Lego and if they can get you to by it at their website then that give them that retailer margin.
And they will 'reward' you for this by giving you a special Christmas themed set. I must admit I was assuming this set would not be great, maybe a simple little thing but they set is really quite impressive.
It is a physical representation of the Charles Dicken's story A Christmas Carol - you all know it, Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of christmas past, present and future, becomes a good person and we all live happily ever after.
And better still for Lego - it's old enough to be in the public domain so no pesky copyright fees to pay to Disney or Marvel or whatnot.
As you can see the set itself places a scene on top of the book - which, genuinely looks like a book, the use of the ridged pieces is impressive to make pages, the spine is old school burgundy, with stickers for the titles and embossing.
Also for some reason I still don't understand there is a hidden drawer in the book, I guess that's just and little Lego oddness for you
The figures on the book at impressive - three Minifigs - Ebenezer Scrooge in the top hat, his employee Bob Crachcit (who looks remarkedly like one of my friends which is a bit weird) and Tiny Tim - the sick son of Bob.
They are inside a house, which given they are meant to be very poor is perhaps a little too nice (but this is Lego they don't really do downtrodden) and a big shoutout to making this very 3-D with a equally impressive back side of the model (being the outside of the house)
All in all this is a great model, and certainly the best Christmas present I've received so far
