Materials:-
- Big mineral water bottle (reuse)
- Two plastic cups (reuse)
- Scissors, marker pen and ruler
- Water pump internal use
- Hydrotons (clay ballls)
- Small pipes
- U-shaped connector
- White tacks
The above item was actually my son's design project to be submitted this week. He began by measuring the "bottom of the cups" on bottle side - he cut out two holes for the cups to sit in. Each cup, cut a hole about 0.5 x 0.5cm also (for water to go thru).
Also, cut a rectangular hole 0.5cm x 4cm for the water-pump cable to go through. And, cut a small hole about 0.5 x 0.5cm for small pipe (from water pump to Y-connector).
Then, insert the water pump to connect the cable to the power socket. Then, put some Hydrotons into the plastic cup. Cut out small holes about 0.5 x 0.5 cm in each cup (for the small pipes to sit).
Small pipes we need were:-
- Long about 20cm to be connected from the water pump to the Y-connector.
- Two short ones about 6cm to be connected from Y-connector to each other cup.
Lastly, fill the bottle with water maybe about 40% full only. Plug the cable into the electricity and turn on. You will see water being sucked in from the bottle, up through the small pipe to the Y-con and to each cup. Water will fill up the cups as well as drip down back into the bottle.
Aquaponic method!!!
