In Norway the moose also is called the king of the forest, (maybe in other countrys too?) The moose like both young forest for browsing and mature forest for shelter and cover. During the winter they eat twigs, shoots, leaves and barque. They are tall and long legged an move easy in relatively deep snow.
On one of my trips out I came over a area with lots of tracks. This was in a quite steep slope with some big trees that was fallen to the ground. A feast for a moose.
Above the slope there where trees who where visited of moose for seveal year. You can see the baroque on trees tried to healed them selves.

Here have the moose easy access to food and shelter in the steep slope. It is trace where the animal had laid resting between the meals, and probably stayed overnight.
It seems like the barque higer up on the trees are better, and probably more juicy and easier to eat. This moose had a little luck finding this tree with much to eat with less use of energy a winter day.
The king was not home, but fun to see and observe what the traces could tell about the animal. A little glimpse in a moose life.
