Hiking in the Lofoten mountains, 30.07.19
Lofoten have a lots of steep mountains, they look like growing straight up from the sea. There are many possibilities for different hikes with a great view over the many islands and ocean. Visiting Lofoten have been very popular and have many visitors during the summer from all over the world. Among the visitors to this beautiful area was my family. We spent a couple of days in July looking around.
Almost as far out to the west there are a little village called Reine. Above the village is a mountain called Reinebringen as you can see on this picture. The hike up the 448 meter high mountain is extremely popular, some days there have been around 1000 peoples on the peak. There have been many accidents and great wear on the trail, resulting lots of loose rocks and slippery when the ground are wet. 4 people died after accidents on the mountain.
The danger for accidents resulted that the trail was closed several years. The municipality decided to make a staircase up the mountain. They hired sherpas from Nepal to do the job and for three years, the Sherpa has worked painstakingly stone by stone to make the trip up to the top safe. Nearly two thousand steps have been made. July this summer the trail was opened again.
Among many others we had to try the stairs up the mountain.
The stairs up to Reinebringen are a success, but at the same time challenging for many. It is steep, cramped and not a suitable place for those with height fright.

After a while on the top it was time to walk down the stairs again. If you plan to visit Lofoten I recommend the hike up Reinebringen. I wish you luck and nice weather.
