EOS Block Producer Vote Freezes Accounts

The EOS block producers voted today to freeze seven accounts indicated by users to be targeted by a phishing scam during registration. According to EOS, this would under normal circumstances be a “dramatic overstep” of block producer authority, but in the absence of a ratified Constitution they deemed the action appropriate. The accounts will be passed to the EOS Core Arbitration Forum (ECAF) upon Constitution ratification.

Speaking of the Constitution, there may be some barriers to the ratification process. For one, it doesn’t seem to be complete; there are text placeholders and a lack of proofreading polish. Second, it includes some questionable language, including the penalties outlined for breach of contract, the requirement for arbitration terms in all smart contracts, and the auctioning off of inactive accounts. Third, even once the Constitution is ratified, it must remain so for 30 consecutive days before taking effect.
Russian Banks to Offer Cryptocurrency Portfolios

Two Russian banks will pilot a cryptocurrency portfolio program, offering investors shares in a fund of various digital assets. The specific assets will be chosen by an algorithm and reviewed quarterly, with the financial institutions managing custodial services. The first currencies to be offered are Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and EOS.
New York DFS Continues Crypto-Friendly Streak

The NY Department of Financial Services has approved a BitLicense for payment processor Square. It is the third such announcement from the DFS in just under a week of approvals for cryptocurrency-related endeavors, with itBit and Xapo both receiving regulatory approvals on the 14th.
ICON Announces Token Swap Dates

ICON (IRX) has announced its token swap schedule. Binance, UpBit, Bithumb, and the ICONex wallet will all support the swap. The mainnet launch will mostly get around the smart contract bug we reported on a few weeks ago, though some users may still be inconvenienced. An ETH holder paid over 43 ETH to transfer 529 ETH to another account, according to EtherScan. That’s a $21,000 transfer fee for about $262,000, or 8%. And just in case you didn’t face-palm quite forcefully enough there, have a look at two failed transactions worth $17,000 and $4,000 respectively.
