Bitfinex May Have Manipulated BTC Prices

A finance professor and a graduate student at the University of Texas have published a paper claiming that activity at the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex played a “large part” in the significant price increases of Bitcoin last year. They arrived at the conclusion that prices were artificially inflated after examining token influx and outflux, particularly that of Tether, which may also have caused price increases of Ether and Zcash.

Enjin Coin Deployment to Testnet

Enjin will launch its smart contracts on the Ropsten test network tomorrow. The contracts, along with their Unity SDK, will provide tools for game development on the blockchain, tokenizing in-game assets and addressing the costs associated with contract deployment in the Ethereum ecosystem.

Partnership: Nebulas & CertiK

The Nebulas blockchain project has partnered with CertiK, a verification protocol, to improve security for the Nebulas dapp ecosystem. CertiK will provide “formal verification” for smart contracts, ensuring that they are bug-free and resistant to attack, and also providing real-time feedback for developers.

SwarmFund Offering Tokenized Equity

SwarmFund, a private equity blockchain, has officially launched equity tokens, allowing investors to buy security tokens representing shares in tech companies. Ripple, Robinhood, and Didi are the first company shares available for purchase.

Launch: Coinbase Index Fund

The Coinbase Index Fund, Coinbase’s first step into asset management, has launched. The fund is currently available only to U.S. investors looking to spend $250,000 to $2 million

Binance To Launch GBP Trading Pairs

As a follow-up to our report yesterday that Binance plans to launch in the island of Jersey,
the exchange has also announced its intent to launch a GBP fiat trading pair. This announcement comes just a few days after CZ confirmed that Binance will offer a Euro trading pair in the future.

Binance Will Support ICON Mainnet Swap

Binance has announced support for the ICON (ICX) mainnet token swap, with activity suspended starting on June 20, 2018. Binance has also added an ICX/USDT trading pair.

Binance to Support EOS Airdrops

Binance announced their intent to support the IQ, DAC, and EON airdrops for the EOS network. Support is pending acknowledgement from the EOS team.

Palmex Exchange Granted Regulatory License

The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has granted a regulatory Sandbox license to cryptocurrency exchange Palmex, making it the first licensed exchange in the Middle East. Palmex was launched by blockchain startup ArabianChain in October 2017.

Ledger Manager Down

Indian Bank Prohibiting Cryptocurrency Due in Court

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which in April prohibited Indian banks from supporting cryptocurrencies, appears to have arrived at that decision with little to no research or information, according to a blockchain lawyer who requested an explanation under the Right of Information laws.The RBI is due in court to defend its decision on July 20th, with lawyers arguing against the restriction stating that their response to the RTI request further strengthens their case.

U.S. Bill Proposes Study of Cryptocurrencies and Trafficking

The U.S. House of Representatives will meet tomorrow to review the newly-introduced Fight Illicit Networks and Detect (FIND) Trafficking Act, which would require the government to investigate how/if virtual currencies are used to enable sex and/or drug trafficking. The act further requires that the results of the study, including recommendations for regulations and legislation, be provided to various House committees within a year.
