Ethereum Scalability Updates Still A Ways Out

The Ethereum community still has a bit of waiting to do for “Ethereum 2.0,” two of the most-anticipated network upgrades, according to a TechCrunch session held yesterday with Vitalik and researcher Justin Drake. The Casper proof-of-stake fork could possibly be launched as soon as 2019, but sharding capabilities likely won’t be available until 2020-2021.
EU Smart City Pilot to Leverage IOTA Solutions

The EU Commission has given the go-ahead to a new “smart city” pilot program, comprised of seven cities which will work with IOTA over the next five years to “generate more energy than they consume.” The pilot is part of a broader research initiative to understand how digital services, like IOTAs IoT solutions, can be used to increase quality of life and efficiency of resource usage. The pilot will receive $20 million in funding from Horizon 2020, a European research program, with another $10 million in partnerships.
Trinity Wallet Updates

The Trinity wallet, currently in public beta, will receive several new upgrades prior to the full release. The next update will include a UI overhaul and performance improvements. Future updates will include a node quorum system, seed backups, and increased password strength requirements.
bOx Protocol Rebrand & Mainnet Launch

Decentralized margin trading protocol b0x has rebranded to bZx and relaunched their website in preparation for their mainnet launch on July 10th, 2018. bZx’s protocol can be “built into any exchange” and aims to address issues of low liquidity, large spreads, and a general lack of user-friendliness which currently act as barriers to adoption.
Surprise, Binance is Rich

Binance is set to bring in between $500 million and $1 billion in net profits this year, according to their CEO. The estimate is based on current profits, user counts, and daily turnover. (Come on, CZ. Let me just get, like, a few million over here.)
YouTube Named in BitConnect Lawsuit

YouTube has been added as a defendant in the class-action suit against BitConnect. The suit alleges that despite receiving enough views to be subject to “enhanced eligibility standards,” the BCC team and affiliates produced tens of thousands of hours of fraudulent content, which YouTube allowed to remain on the site. A source in the Coin Telegraph article states that YouTube was “notified” by several users of fraudulence, meaning that there were several videos posted detailing suspicious activity. We’re not sure whether this can reasonably be considered an official notification; at any rate, the lawsuit claims that a proper database review would have prevented harm from coming to users.
