Personality is as complex as the next discovery. Most of us tend to put in great confidence that we know those close to us, such as our family, friends, and even co-workers/ classmates. The people closest to us and ourselves are often the ones we're led to believe in. However, sometimes we may not even know our own parents.
However, there are many items concealed under the chest of most of us. People tend to hide their true identity from certain people or places to belong, or they tend to enjoy masking their real selves to con others. Either way, the childhood friend you grew up with, your own siblings, and even your parents could not be who you think they were. Some research even suggests that over 34% of the population hides their personality. While about 60% of us hide our identity from strangers to conceal, about 34% of us hide from our closest family and friends. Some people conceal themselves so well that the truth would make you feel like you're seeing two people. Identity masking is one of the most complicated yet common things people do.
Besides masking identity, many people tend to believe they're a certain personality they masked to be. Some people would've masked themselves for so long that they began to believe it themselves. Despite the lack of self-knowledge, many people become delusional around their own sense of self due to excessive pressure to change. After many years of concealing their personality, some people might even form thinking habits of another personality. They might even become confused when their true personality comes out. Multiple identities are not always about concealing.
Apart from concealing one's identity, a lack of self-awareness is also a very common misinterpretation. According to a survey, while about 95% of us think we know ourselves the best, only 10-15% of us actually know ourselves. This means, most of us tend to look at ourselves with deep, subjective logic. When we present ourselves to others, we would carry on that false filter of ourselves and make them believe we're something we're not.
