We are at a cafe, airport, hostel or university, we see Free Public Wi-Fi. We connect free Wi-Fi without thinking. We all do that.
But there is a real risk. Let's see how public wifi can be a risk and how to stay safe.

How Public Wi-Fi Can Be Used Against You:

  • Hackers on the same network can intercept data we send or receive like emails, passwords, credit card information.
  • A hacker sets up a fake wifi and when you log in. Now he can see everything you send or receive.
  • Cybercriminals use software on unecrypted web traffic. If it is not encrypted, it is not safe.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Use a VPN: This encrypts you connection. It is like a private tunnel for your data.
  • Stick to HTTPS websites: Look for lock in the address bar.
  • Avoid logging into sensitive accounts: Do not bank or shop on a public Wi-Fi.
  • Turn off auto-connect: Do not let your device to join public Wi-Fi automatically.
