another example is if somehow in the past some random person's car broke down and held up your future mom in traffic on her way to a grocery store.

Pretend that your parents met in that grocery store originally, but since your mom got stuck in traffic they didn't end up meeting. Your whole life, because of this stupid car breakdown, doesn't exist anymore. A super small issue changed the future dramatically.
