Fun Fact: Liberia as a nation was conceived here in the good old USA, thus the Capitol is Monrovia named for President James Monroe. The idea was to free the slaves and return them to Africa with a country of their own.

Many Virginians did exactly that, freeing their slaves and paying for their return. The only problem was that the local tribes were not overly excited by these Americans showing up.

The flag of Liberia has a familiar look, don't you think?

So really no surprise to me that Liberia has a gold coin featuring an American Quarter Horse.
