Time for some FUN FACTS:
On the Reverse of the coin is the flag of the State of Maryland.
During the War Between the States, Maryland was a deeply divided Border State sending troops to fight for the South and the North.
The men from Maryland who fought for the South placed the banner of the Crossland Family upon their uniforms.
The men who fought for the North placed the banner of the Calvert Family upon their uniforms.
The Flag represents the unity of Maryland after the War.
Since the North won the war, the Calvert banner is placed in the top right to signify the victory in heraldic form.
Just a fun fact.
Also I believe the translation of the motto is "Manly Deeds and womanly words" or more commonly expressed as "Strong Deeds and Gentle Words".
