Is Steemit a Modular system?

I've been reading investor reports for many different companies and one thing that I look for is if a company to be Robust and Resilient. Lets not kid ourselves, not every company gives positive returns in the double digits without having some kind of special sauce.

Google's special sauce is that it challenges itself. We all know that Google is a search engine that helps us find anything and everything. But diving deeper it has created and acquired many different systems that it already has.

Examples-

1. Google bought Waze and did not take down Google Maps
2. After acquiring Youtube, its previous product, Google Video, still went through a redesign.
3. They tried to attack their own Gmail service with Google Wave
4. In instant messaging, for example, Google has offered four distinct options for its users simultaneously (Google Talk, Google+ Messenger, Messaging, and Google Voice)

This tells me that internal competition is very healthy.

Since I am new to Steemit I was hoping to get some feedback and what the community thought.
