Fiat currency isn't money, fiat digits (debit cards) even less so. currency != money. Historically, gold and silver are money., and they're retaining their values pretty well.

Now that I got that out of my system, currency isn't a bad thing in and of itself. The alternative is barter and currency beats the hell out of that. Currency facilitates trade by providing a medium of exchange Manipulation of the currency through usury is what's created the mess of the economy that's getting ready to come to a head.

TLDR: The real issues are usury and everyone trying to live at the expense of everyone else.
