On the 21st of June one 63-year-old Omani male patient, with a white beard and hair, came to me. He didn’t come for the common problems with which most patients are coming now-a-days. He came to do his semen analysis test. I was kinda surprised to know the purpose of his visit. Why, at this age, does he need the semen analysis test? Moreover, on questioning, he told that he already has several children.

The reason is that he married a young lady a few years ago. She is either 26 or 36 years of age (He told her age but I can’t remember exactly). The fact is that she is at her childbearing age and wants children. On the other hand, his desire for a child is not that much.
By the way, even though they are trying, he failed to procure any child so far for her. To find out the cause (if he is responsible for not having a kid with his new wife), he did his semen analysis test two months ago. According to him (he didn’t bring the old report), the sperm motility was less than the required number. So, he wanted to check again. Hence he visited me yesterday evening.
Last evening, he didn’t give the sample. He came at that time to take the bottle to put the sample in. This morning he returned with the sample. According to the report, indeed his sperm motility is low. Only 5% of his sperm is actively motile, even though the total sperm count is 70 million cells/ml which is more than the normal range (The normal range is > 20 million /ml). 70% of his sperm are dead or non-motile and 85% of the total sperms are of abnormal forms!
It is completely normal to marry a young lady. It is also normal to have a desire to have more babies. However, running from clinic to clinic for semen analysis tests is a somewhat embarrassing thing for a male person. May Allah never put me and others in that situation!
