A couple of months ago, I received an invite from a hotel, in cooperation with a photography store, to go visit the rooftop of an office building in the centrum in Amsterdam. This is a very unique location because there aren't that many high-rise buildings in the centrum of Amsterdam.
This is because the soil of this part of the Netherlands is like a swamp. Amsterdam is also a couple of meters beneath the sea level. Now a day's they do build higher buildings but when this area was constructed, they couldn't go higher.
In these pictures you see here, it is the central station area. And that "building" in the water is really a boat. Well, not really a boat too, it's a flooting bike parking area! It's so full of bikes and buildings in the Netherlands that they are seeking more space in, and on top of the water. Even so, they just finished building a new bikeparking area in front of the central station. Not really infront but underneath the water of the canals in front of the station😅
Here you see the characteristics old buildings that you see everywhere in Amsterdam along the canals!
In the back of central staition is an area of defelepment. It used to be an old industrial area, and now that are building apartments, big movie theaters (that white building) and recreational building next to it, the Amsterdam tower (100 meters high) witch houses restaurants, bars, shops and offices. And on top of this building you have a bar and exhibition space! And to top it off, there is a big swing right over the edge of the building.
Here you see the same old buildings. But during the night, they are even more beautiful.
There are almost no buildings higher than the churches in the pictures. The big church you see here is the famous, almost 400 years old Wester church. It's right outside the Ane Frank house. She tells about this church in here, diary!
