I have diverse interests & am inquisitive by nature. I love to learn about & understand, pretty much, everything. Because of that, I will be sharing all manner of topics. You've already read a small sample. One subject I'll be offering regularly is about animals/pets. I love all animals, but, have a special affinity for kitties. It started with being born into a family that had cats.
What I'm going to share now is from the past couple of years. I had wanted to volunteer at an animal shelter for, at least, 20 years. Health issues, especially, kept me from following through. Even though things weren't ideal two years ago, including with health (which has actually had some setbacks in that time), I figured, if I kept waiting for the right time, that's all I'd be doing. Waiting.
I went to a volunteer orientation, on the first Wed that July & that Fri I started socializing with the kitties. We don't have to commit to a certain day or time, but, I wanted to do that for myself, because, I felt it would help me stick to it. I've gotten to know some of the staff, other volunteers, aides/clients from an agency for the developmentally disabled, potential adopters & best of all, some wonderful kitties. The latter all have different personalities. Some like to explore. Others are playful. Still others are affectionate. Sometimes, they're all of the above. Of course, being in a stressful environment probably mutes some of their behavior. They'll surely blossom once they're with their forever person/family.
A couple of months after starting to volunteer, I created a blog. Various things pertaining to animals/pets, but, especially lost & found. I haven't been posting to that as much lately, but, will be getting back to it. In Feb of last year, I started a group for rescue & rehome on Facebook. In Oct of last year, I also began one for lost & found. Both of those for counties within one of the area codes in northern CA, where I'm from. I feel like it's an extension of my volunteering. As it's for areas within four hours of hear, I also feel like I'm making more of a direct impact & I'm getting to know some of the other people involved with animal volunteering/fostering/adopting/rescuing. This last week I discovered a page for a rescue in the county I'm originally from. The person running it wasn't able to keep up with it & was looking for a new admin. I said that I'd be happy to help.
I guess I'm allowed to post the links for these groups & page. As they're not in competition with Steemit (have nothing to do with earning at all). Even so, they're meant for people who live in certain counties in NorCal or, at least, are in CA. However, the link to my page takes you to my writer's page on Facebook & you can see my profile (including groups & pages I manage), if you're interested in finding out more or you happen to be from around here. I always enjoy responses from others who are part of volunteering/fosering/adopting/rescuing. Is that you? Kitty below is one that's currently available at the Ukiah Shelter. He goes by, Bubba & is in #90.
