Summer, I miss you already. It's ok… I’m not crying.
The end of summer always holds regrets for me. Mostly missed opportunities to be in the sun, do something fun, or be productive. But in looking back at the photos I’ve taken these last three months, I was surprised to find that, actually, this summer was a blast!
Oh, let me show you the list. I promise not to litter future posts with so many exclamations.
Skimboarding!
This was one of the highlights of summer. Learning how to skimboard is hilarious, painful and can bruise the ego quite roughly if you’re not careful. It took me three trips to the beach to work up the courage to actually allow myself to give it a decent try without being self-conscience.
Warm Summer Dates
We cancelled our weekly movie nights with friends to focus on ourselves for a change. And that meant more dates, adventures and general awesomeness. On this particular night, we tried out a Michelin star seafood restaurant. It was divine! We also snuck in a sneaky wave to one of the chefs who we knew from church. We weren’t biased at all…
Star Wars: The Last Jedi!
Oh, the hours of discussions caused by this film! He’ll deny it, but my husband actually enjoyed the first 30 minutes of this film. Of course, it was midnight, and who has rational thoughts at midnight, right? I enjoyed it, despite it’s flaws; and you can be sure to find many a Star Wars-related blog post here in the future.
New Friends!
Colleague-turned-fantastic-friend. Strictly-speaking, I guess we became friends before summer started. But this was definitely the year we hit it off. If it’s not hours of discussing Star Wars, eating fantastic food or getting a bit too tipsy then it’s just general chat about anything that's on our minds. Luckily it also gives me some sway at work when things break; I know who to call.
Fabulous New Haircut!
I cut all my hair off again because it’s far too hot to do anything else. And snowflakes, because of course.
Christmas with my family!
The bartering is strong with this one.
While I can’t remember what my husband was trying to convince my brother to trade, it can be assured that it was grossly one-sided. But who can say no to that face?!
New Fish-catching Record!
Christmas Day fishing has been a family tradition for over 15 years. This year, I broke the record for the biggest fish caught. Keep in mind, we fish off the side of a wharf with a literal fishing line and stick.
Summer Storms!
Need I say more??
Long Nights at Work!
Less of a blast, but still a massive step for me in taking on more responsibility at work. These days it’s common for my car to be the only one left in the garage. Oddly, it gives me a sense of accomplishment, despite how weary my brain is after a long day.
Many MANY Milkshakes!
Because it’s too damn hot to do anything else!
My First Gardening Endeavour
My first step towards my New Year’s goal of learning how to garden. I can’t wait to see the difference in another years’ time!
I’d encourage everyone to do some kind of look-back at the end of a season and challenge themselves to consider if they achieved everything they wanted to. And if not, you’ve got the next season to be better. Autumn is kind of the windy season for us now, with a few sporadic hot days in between as days get shorter and nights get longer; waking up gets harder. I’m not particularly looking forward to it. But chin up! Taekwondo tournaments are starting up soon, and I’m aiming for my first gold medal.
But until next time!!
