Probably that was my greatest TV show finding in the last couple of years. From all the TV shows that I am currently following, Paradise, for now, is the best one. Season 1 was already a solid watch from 2025 and now the first 4 episodes from the 2nd season proved that you can continue a Tv show at the same level that you finished the previous season. The second season released a Premiere last week with 3 new episodes plus a 4th episode yesterday. The show is originally a Hulu production but here in Canada is at Disney+ app.
The first season was a suspense to figure out who killed the US president (James Marsden) in the underground bunker after an apocalyptical event with an Antarctic volcanic eruption that would kill most of Earth's population. The apocalyptical event was mostly just a background since the adrenaline was more with the suspense and thriller aspects of the agent Xavier Collins (Sterling Brown) trying to solve the mystery and dealing with the mastermind Samantha "Sinatra" Redmond (Julianne Nicholson). The season ended with a cliffhanger, which means we will probably see more of the outside world in the next season.
Now the former agent is wandering outside in search of his wife, who should still be alive. But the adrenaline continues with other side stories, inside and outside of the bunker. So many mysteries to solve, like what are the real intentions of the agent Jane Driscoll (Nicole Brydon), who looked like being Sinatra's partner of crime, but after some events, no one is sure. It is the only character that we don't clearly understand yet. A new character since the first episode, who got probably the most emotional event in the 4th episode, which even I cried a bit.
The show used an interesting formula since the first season, telling the story in the present but also showing flashbacks of the past, and that's how we discovered how the planet entered a new temporary ice age. Now in season 2, we thought that finally the planet was getting into an environmental balance again, but in the 4th episode, there is some evidence that the planet is still going downhill to a similar path that Venus went. The actors are mostly known by some appearances in TV shows and not-so-famous movies, like James Marsden, who played Sonic the Hedgehog. But still, they deliver well in their roles.
After the last episode, I concluded that Agent Collins is inspired by Goku from Dragon Ball, a naive character who always believes in humanity and in every single person until they prove the contrary. For him, everyone isn't a suspect until he sees evidence to the contrary. Even in the middle of an apocalyptic Earth where survival instincts come, he really believes in the true nature of humanity in helping others. For sure, I think that is a utopia and Agent Collins many times get deceptions with some people. Let's see when he truly understands the nature of Agent Jane, how he will react. We have more 4 episodes for this season, and I am anxious to see what will happen.
