Hello all friends of beautiful Hive world..

Store to Earn

We are already familiar with several innovative concepts in the blockchain space that reward users for their participation. For instance, there's "play2earn," which offers rewards to players for engaging with the game, "move2earn," which incentivizes users for staying active, and "proof of stake," a system that rewards users for staking tokens.

Now, a novel idea known as "Proof of Access" (POA) or "Store to Earn" has been introduced by the 3speak team. This concept involves utilizing free storage space on your hard drive. The SPK team has developed a decentralized protocol that stores network content onto users' hard drives. This ensures that files are distributed across various computers worldwide, creating multiple copies of each file stored in different locations.

This "Proof of Access" or "Store to Earn" concept is gaining traction on the Hive blockchain. Currently in the testing phase, the 3speak network anticipates a mainnet launch within the next 5 to 6 months. During the testing period, the SPK team is already rewarding individuals who participate by storing videos on their hard drives. The rewards currently consist of liquid Hive tokens, and once the mainnet is live, participants will be rewarded with SPK/Larynx tokens.

We can draw a parallel between Proof of Access and the witness model on Hive. In the witness model, witnesses receive rewards for processing transactions, whereas in Proof of Access, participants are incentivized for storing binary files. When the main system requests a specific file and a local system has that same file stored, the participant will receive a reward. the idea is innovative and has the capability to solve the problem of big data. This is happened first time on the web3 space and has capability of solving the a fundamental issue of space for the data. The protocol has designed to store (video) content in a decentralized way. The key point is the network generally becomes centralized and is therefore more prone to attack but here it is decentralized.

My experiment with Proof Of Access

Last week when I read and watch the video of POA I thought to give it a try. After going through the video tutorial by eddiespino@eddiespino and quickly install the application and setup the account quickly. Here is the link to post for your reference. I must say the process is super easy. The setup time is less then a minute but the time taking is the installation of application. After installation and setup the account its time to run the protocol. When I clicked on "START THE PROOF OF ACCESS" it took some time to start at first time. A I know it install some additional data required for running the protocol. When it started I start downflowing the video content.

hive

The moment I click on the home page it does not shown any content or video. It make me confused, then I click on the new content tab it start showing the video content. After clicking on the video file I saw the option to download the video - DOWNLOAD TO IPFS NODE

hive

Now the first video was downloaded on on local drive. I downloaded ,some more video files and after some time when I checked the size of the data downloaded by clicking on the - Setting > Proof of Access option and come to know that I was end up downloading more then 9 GB of data. I checked the space left on my local C drive and come to know that it consumed the 9 GB of space (files were downloaded on C drive which is my window installation directory)

I checked if the SPoA is ok by clicking on Pins option under setting. SPoS shoes green dot with green mark means all the files were downloaded 100% what means now the downloaded files are part of protocol.

blockchain

Now is the time to show check if I got any rewards?
After some time the first drop of 0.05 Hive in my account was observed. I was super excited. Then another drop and then another .........

24 Hour Experiment

I opted to run the Proof of Access (POA) mechanism for a continuous 24-hour period to assess its potential earnings. It's important to note that rewards are influenced by various factors, with the primary factor being the amount of data downloaded. Throughout this timeframe, I successfully downloaded a total of 9 GB of data. Concurrently, there were 160 GB of data downloaded by various users, and around 20 accounts remained actively engaged.

proof of access

Commencing the experiment at 7 PM in the evening, I allowed the system to remain idle. The following morning, after completing some tasks on Hive, I departed for the office while leaving the system operational throughout the workday. Upon my return from the office, I reviewed the accrued rewards in my account around 7 PM, ensuring a complete 24-hour cycle.

Over the span of 24 hours, I received rewards on 73 occasions, with each reward amounting to 0.05 Hive. In aggregate, these rewards totaled to 73 x 0.05 = 3.65 Hive.

Conclusion

I'm truly enthusiastic about these advancements. The team has dedicated two years to this project and has previously executed successful Larynx/SPK airdrops to Hive users. Based on my knowledge, there are plans to eventually substitute Hive rewards with the Larynx/SPK token. Although the project is currently in its early stages, the mainnet launch is anticipated in the upcoming months. I'm confident that this initiative will not only add value to SPK but also enhance the Hive network as a whole.
