The most popular means of the above stated is the coin and paper money, used for our daily needs and services. A means medium which lot use to gauge how successful a man is, a means by which could be used for a lot and also what people call the "greater good".
The part of the world I come to in West Africa, in a country called Ghana, in a city called Tamale, is the place of my birth and where I have spent most of my life even now, I've gained a lot of memories in this city and can't part with them, even with all this, I just can't believe all this happening in the town I proudly say I'm from.
I do get that money does a lot of things but the youth here make it a social status in the sense that, over here everyone looks at how successful a person is by how much they spend or the kind of phone or bike they ride. The worst is how they look at your phone to see if it has two or three cameras.
First things, how money gain here in this part of the world? would you believe it if I did? Over here they do stuff like money rituals, Internet fraud, 'Gaja', and any other way they find legal by their conscience.
The one which foreigners fall prey to is Internet fraud also known as 'Game' over here. Just as Internet fraud relates, it is about scamming a person through the internet, this has a lot of ways to do it, but one stands out here. This involves a person taking the persona of another person. Here's how it works, apparently they chose between being a male or female after which they chose to either impersonate a male or female, they then choose a profession and then play a game with the victim they get.
How's this possible? the modern-day internet, of course, connects people across the globe, so they come to choose a site Facebook, and sign up with the persona they choose, for instance, I might create an account as a United States Soldier who is at peacekeeping at a remote area, probably Pakistan or any other country, I'd then search for ladies in the US and befriend them on Facebook, I'd then take it slowly promising them love and all that, I know it doesn't sound all that realistic but trust me if you were here you'd understand because trust is everything, I'd give them all sorts of pictures of myself at different places, at the camp. with friends, at training, and all you can think of, and ooh videos too.
As if that wasn't enough, they'll always find someone to call you on phone so you believe all the lies being fed to you on the promise of love, trust me they know how to do it so much such that if even I was a victim I WOULDNT BELIEVE IT trust me. After building the trust to a threshold, then comes the money part, they find some reasons for you to send them or someone else money.
It could be stuff like he/she has an adopted kid somewhere and they're in a fix currently so need you to send the kid some money so that if they return they'd settle it, and mostly the victims gladly do thinking that they made a promise with a military person who would be coming home soon they could cuddle and all that. Honestly, thinking of all this boils down to the fact that a lot of people are lonely so the little attention they get, they put in all their energy.
How serious is the matter? It would be a problem if you’re sending cash to someone out of pure love or sympathy or anything at all, the issue is sending it to an unknown someone somewhere with the hopes of something that’ll never happen. Sometimes people have to borrow from the banks or others just so they can send it.
I do believe some victims might have committed suicide because of this. Imagine you being in love with a fictional being only for you to find out that the person was never a Prince Charming or the Cinderella you fell for but a wicked witch.
The youth over here are so much into it that anyone doing any work of any sort to make an income is ridiculed, talk less of those of our schooling. They see a student and act as if the world belongs to them and they have dictated poverty on the said student.
They spend without thinking, only knowing that they can always get a poor soul to scam and stuck up some cash… Sigh. You can imagine.
After spending that much and having those hopes, the victim finds out and cuts them off, that’s when reality kicks in and they sell everything they bought just to make others say they haven’t flopped and still have a lot of cash. One by one they keep selling their possessions and till they have nothing left, that when they turn to drugs.
It’s sad how much the youth of the next genera are already drug addicts, which brings me to a question, so we are the leaders of tomorrow's generation? Unbelievable. With no possible way of making an income, being sick to care for, and can get a seizure at any time, we’re just walking disasters.
Talking too much will make go off the board but there’s a lot to talk about. I’ll pause here and gather my thoughts for a comeback.
It’s no fun living off the blood and sweat of someone else while inflicting pain 😪
