I've always been a fan of AK patterned semi-auto shotguns. I've built a fully decked out Saiga-12 shotgun years ago and it still tears up target holders to this day. Since that time frame, the Vepr-12 arrived to the US and created it's own following. I like both guns equally, the Vepr-12 feeling just a bit more refined than my Saiga 12 but not to the point where I was going to run out and buy one.
A third major player just arrived, and it's made here in the US. Enter the Kalashnikov USA KS-12 series. Graced with the official Kalashnikov name, it's every ounce of quality you would expect to receive the name. Fit and finish exceed the Saiga or Vepr, operation is butter smooth, rivets are textbook mushroomed, and there is little slop in the entire assembly.
I first handled the KS-12 series during the 2017 SHOT Show and it quelled my concern for an American made Russian patterned firearm. Kalashnikov appears to have partnered with CAA to furnish the shotgun, the one featured here is their KS12-T or "Tactical" model. The difference being the following:
-Collapsible Stock
-Larger 10 Round Magazine
-Railed Fore End
-Flash Suppressor instead of Thread Protector
The premium features will cost you a little above an extra $100 or so. In my opinion it's worth it as most people will want the larger magazine and collapsible stock.
