Simplistic Light Painting Camera Rotation

Time to for some simple subjects. Often I strive for the most awesome location or most beautiful location as a subject. Why is that? Well, here I have tried to keep it somewhat simple. Since everyone around me was busy photographing something I had no interest in I decided to walk around and look for some small things. I really want to learn to pick up on the beauty in the small and underrated subjects. Here is one subject to be featured. What you see is just a simple line of grass in the cracks of the concrete at the old military airfield that we have featured a few times now.

There were so many spots for us Light Painters at the Airfield Schoenwalde. @Lichtkunstfoto, stepko@stepko, and candelart@candelart shared some of their results already so check out what they did.

Heute probieren wir mal was einfaches. Gras!

The first image is a Camera Rotation in five and the second Light Painting is two steps throughout the exposure. For both parts, I had to run around and behind the grass to light it up from different angles.

What were the settings?

What you see is the main featured Camera Rotation Light Painting is a single 53-second exposure time photograph. The two-step photo is a 37-second exposure. The camera was always set to ISO 100 (to allow for areal loooong exposure) and my LAOWA 12mm Zero D Lens to F16.

Always room for improvement

The following image shows you nicely when I decide to run again. In the center bottom part of the image you see me lighting directly into the camera. That's not what we want, so I run around again.

Trust me that happens more often than I wish for. Great for my summer body 2025 to keep running.

The Set-Up | The Spot

Here you see the very simple setup and my spectacular subject. If you have a closer look you can see the camera rotation tool.

Camera Rotation what?

Camera Rotation is just what you think. During the exposure, the camera is turned in a few angles and while doing so I also light up the scene. Everything is one exposure without any trickery.

Kamera Rotation Light Painting?

Kamera Rotation ist genau was Ihr jetzt denkt.

Not too long ago I wrote up an article on the topic. It has been published on my website and here on Hive as a blog post if you are interested in this technique.
