Do you think being literate is quite different from being educated?
Yes - being literate is quite different from being educated. Let me explain it with the definitions of both the terms literate and educated.
When a person or anyone could be a child as well knows how to read and write then he is called a literate person. There is a famous saying you would have heard and it goes like:-
"Every Tom, Dick and Harry can do it" - So a person is literate if he or she knows how to read and write.

Whereas an educated person knows how to apply that knowledge gained. A person read something and then he is able to use the knowledge to the best of his abilities i.e. to make the best out of it - then that person is called an educated person. An example that I can give here is that an engineer read how to make building and then he went on to make the best building of the world. So here the engineer who went on to make the best building in the world is an educated person - where he applied the knowledge to build something new or made the best use of it.
Therefore being literate is just knowing how to read and write and being educated is actually applying what you have read.
On the contrary, a person who just read about how to make a building does not mean that he cannot make the best of the building in the world. A literate person has a vast horizon of knowledge and different perspectives than an educated person. A literate person can even go beyond an educated person and in our example, the literate person went on to create the tallest building in the world.
So the point is I'm trying to make is that - You need to be educated to be literate but you need not be literate to be educated.
