So I got assigned to write 1k or so of some random wording on a controversial topic. Pretty much everything is controversial these days. No matter what you say, it’s going to be controversial to somebody. The day before last or thereabouts I also got nominated to say a few words for the ‘Chart Your Course Challenge’, which is probably the antithesis to whatever can or cannot be perceived as controversial. So let’s kill two birds with one proverbial stone and go for it here.

Let’s get the formalities out of the way for the CYCC in prioritising the three things that I’m supposed to do on Steemit in whatever order that are the most important to me. 1. Curating 2. Posting 3. Commenting. And how about we throw the second part of this in right here in terms of helpful communities which are 1. #veterans 2. #steemsilvergold 3. PYPT and #thealliance 4. my friends in Ghana and Venezuela and 5. brospn@brospn and spl@spl. Alright so this part is done. That’s more than 5 but I categorised them like this for a reason. Because it makes sense to me.

What’s controversial about this? I don’t use this account to self-vote. Hell, I don’t use any account to self-vote. I don’t use any account to upvote for curation. Upvoting for curation is this: voting at the optimal time right where you think you’re going to net the most in curation rewards. Doesn’t matter what the post is. That’s the thing I don’t do. Kinda makes me feel like a dick to do that and an extra penny here and there won’t make up for that general feeling of being a dick. When I vote on some unprofitables, that’s enjoyable. You get to see a post that’d get 0.01 SBD go to a full 0.08 SBD. Depending on what I’ve got. And you know that when that person goes to look at their 0.01 SBD post and sees that 0.08 SBD they’ll be pretty damn happy since it’s not 0.01 SBD anymore.

Can’t say much about posting. I post a lot of phishing messages and various forms of admin. Sometimes I post other stuff. I’ve got 3 other partners who don’t post, so here we are with whatever I like ending up on the blog. In this post here I’m adding a photo by AwsmGy, who will perpetually be reminded that maybe it’s a good idea to get on STEEM. Yeah I know it’s nostalgic and all that shit to sit on a vBulletin that hasn’t been updated in 10 years. I do that too, except not on that same vBulletin. I have my SQL dumps to stare in to when fancy strikes.

Commenting is third. I don’t like writing long comments unless I know, without a doubt, that they will be read. Like if I comment on ura-soul@ura-soul’s post, I know full well he’s going to be on that within a minute of Gina notifying him, combing right through. Otherwise, I just message whomever. Plus I always have this dilemma in the back of my mind – do I want someone engaging in an in-depth convo with me about the natural benefits of garlic or whatever their damn post is about? If I say “good post” I’m a dick. If I say “good post, your point about how to shove garlic in your socks is perfectly rational” then buddy will say something back. And it’ll go from there. Do I want that? There’s really no winning here. And what if I forget to respond? Man, that’s the ultimate insult. Now I insulted someone because if it’s not hammered to my forehead, I won’t remember it. Why do you think I ask everyone to just message me their links?

I’m not going to say much about the communities I’ve picked except there’s some fine people in all of them. Never thought anyone would appreciate my love for finding pieces of random scrap metal in piles of dirt until I stumbled on the #steemsilvergold crowd. No one else can appreciate the enjoyment of digging through shit for shit.

This isn’t coming off too controversial yet. But getting to that mark of 1k words. Can I write 1k words purely to have 1k words? You’ll see. I have to do this every day of the week for 7 days. Coincidentally, this is also how long one has to post original stuff to get off the cheetah@cheetah blacklist. If I can do it so can you. And there’s no 1k tape-measure for Cheetah.

Speaking of measuring things that may or may not require measurement, now I’m supposed to outline some measurable future goals; project some quantifiable metrics. In 1 month my goal is to achieve at least 5 posts that aren’t about phishing. They may be about my inclination to put a bullet in the head of some hackers to stop said phishing, but still. In 3 months shit is going to thaw and my goal is to have another contest, with more than 2 participants, focused on digging various pieces of scrap metal out of the ground. In 12 months my goal is to onboard no less than 50 veterans. That’s no easy number but feel free to hold me to it. Onboarding isn’t easy. Everyone looks at me like I’m trying to sell them a timeshare. Timeshare selling, got to have respect for those guys – mad hard.

Alright so we’re nearing the end of this quota without anything all that controversial being said except maybe the timeshare business. I now need to nominate some victims best buds for their go at this challenge. This took some serious thinking here. My first nomination of course goes to patrice@patrice, who loves all challenges. My second nomination goes to phelimint@phelimint. Next is shadowspub@shadowspub and artemisnorth@artemisnorth, tagged together so they can’t cheat off each other. And finally there’s thebugiq@thebugiq. Know what all of these but one have in common? Except loving challenges, that is. That’s the obvious answer.
