First things first. There are lots of backing tracks for this song on YouTube, but I really liked this one. Apart from the tool at the start counting it in. It's not in the original, or any other version I've ever heard so why they decided on that when making a backing track I just don't know. Nuthing wrong with a click track.
Anyway, rant aside.
The Meters were an American funk band formed in the 60's and played together for over 15 years together. I hadn't heard of them, not that I'm that into funk, but came across them listening to guitarist Oz Noy who covers this song on his brilliant album Twisted Blues. I got onto Oz via the podcast "No Guitar Is Safe". I later found a live version of this song by John Mayer which love him or hate him (I love him) is pretty sweet.
Like with a lot of funk guitar playing such as with Nile Rodgers or Jimmy Nolen (James Brown's guitarist) Leo Nocentelli's parts aren't technically that hard to play, but it's the feel man, it's the feel. Look on YouTube for covers of this song and there is always a torrent of comments about how no one can play it like Leo. Luckily for me not many people look at my YouTube channel so I don't have to deal with this issue. 馃槉 I pretty much record these for myself as a record of being able to, and a few hive people who can read this and see I don't take myself too seriously.
Stay safe people and ENJOY!
