It's done. I got through this project with all fingers and toes still attached and a half decent looking half guitar.
I'm really pleased with the way this turned out and I'm not sure if I'd change anything if I had to do it again.
But how does it sound I hear you ask...
TBH... not great. The acoustic sound is quite good so as a sit in front of the TV and play guitar sound wise it's great. The hardware on this let it down quite a bit. I'm half thinking (some time in the next x days/weeks/months/years) of gutting it, buying a new pick guard and just throwing in a single humbucker. I think that would make a big difference, and would also be fun to do. I have very little electronics experience, but I think even I could give that a crack.
But how does it play I now hear you ask...
TBH... not great either. The neck is nice and the action is low but not buzzy. BUT, removing the top of the guitar makes it very neck heavy so you have to play it like a classical guitar otherwise it falls to your left all the time. I'll make video of how is sounds recorded in the next few days and that will make more sense. Also when I play I rest my forearm on the top of the guitar and now that that has gone my arm is kind of just hanging around. I find I'm anchoring the side of my hand on the bridge a bit more. That works ok, but going from one technique like strumming to soloing is really weird.
So was it worth it? Hell yeah!! It was fun. On top of the price of the kit it cost me about $35 and some time that I had lying around anyway. It was never going to be a main guitar, but it's a cool show piece and if I ever go traveling again I'd be happy to just chuck it in the back of the car. If it got busted up... meh, doesn't matter.
