I discovered Guthrie Govan late 2016 about 2 months after he toured here in Australia for the first time and probably for the last, which is just a bugger to say the least.
Guthrie is almost exactly the same age as me and that's where the similarities end. In some ways that's very very disappointing and in others it's a blessing.
Guthrie is one of the most versatile guitarist not only of our time, but of all time. Seeing him play and be interviewed you can see that he is not quite normal and his brain is wired differently. There is a nervousness about him that gives him the ability to focus on playing and playing and playing.
He was named "Guitarist of the Year" by Guitarist magazine in 1993 when I was playing sick tunes like 'Wonderwall' and 'Staceys Mom'. Ah well we all have our own paths.
So what's the upside of not being exactly like your guitar hero? Well he kind of looks like Catweazle (There's a reference you may need to Google).
Anywho... He brought out a solo album "West Coast Grooves" with some tunes that are almost playable by mere mortals and you can buy the backing tracks and TAB from the website JamTracks.
This is one of the tunes off this album called "The Blue Room". Took me a while to get it although it's not quite the whole song (and if I'm honest I haven't quite got it). But my family would kill me if I continued to practice this track in front of the TV, so I recorded it never to be played again.
