I originally learned this tune when doing an improvisation workshop at the Melbourne Jazz Museum. It was here that I found that jazz was hard, and I need to go take a good hard look at myself and my playing. In a good way though. It made me want to go away and work on some of the weaknesses that I discovered.
This is one of these songs that everyone knows from somewhere. Not sure where I first heard it but I always remember that it's in 5/4 time (thus the name 'Take 5'). This also means that once you know this fact, you can't stop counting all the way through it. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ..). Or maybe I have mild OCD... who knows.
This (for me) was kind of challenging. Lots of chromatics and the whole 5/4 timing. But! most enjoyable to play. Hope you feel the same listening.
