Lately, the internet experienced the phenomenon of an invasion of various AI constructs such as Cortana and others. Among them was Yandex’s Alice construct. Certainly, soon enough many article writers will start glorifying her, exalting her abilities. However, the sad fact is that Alice is as dumb as a whistle. The construct is imperfect in every respect and, in fact, looks like a rush job.

Yandex is a gigantic company, the leading internet search engine in Russia with billions in budgets, and yet they are incapable of creating a decent, working construct. Alice can’t tell rat droppings from rice crispy at the stage it is at. Users of the construct are now forced to use tags, swiping their fingers up and down the screen to mark whether the machine answered correctly or not. Though such is the process of machine training, it is evidence of an insufficient database of knowledge. It is these immense gaps in the development of an AI than GraphGrail’s platform will be able to rectify, providing a large database for further training and purpose orientation of constructs.

Dialog #1
— Do you speak English? —Currenlty Russian Only.
— When have you been you created? — In the next life.
— Tell me the G8 country memebers. — Searching in Yandex… (Search in Yandex manually)
Dialog #2
— What is your name? — My name is Alice.
— Are you a girl or a boy? —And what do you think yourself? It’s a sarcasm. You don’t need to answer.
— What is rubber made of? — Opening Search…(Search in Yandex manually)
Dialog #3
– Under which fir does a hare hide from the rain? — Opening Search…(Search in Yandex manually)
— When will the machines rise? — Will know in a moment. (Search in Yandex manually)
— What is the square root of 458?— Will know in a moment. (Search in Yandex manually)

The Alice construct cannot maintain speech context, it has absolutely no self-consciousness, it has some serious gender issues as it cannot even tell if it is a girl or a boy, and had no recollection of age (which cannot even be determined based on its voice). Alice cannot properly weave coherent speech patterns and has no abilities in determining the essence of dialogue. Its answers are oftentimes composed of nonsense, such as “ When have you been you created? — In the next life.

”The AI has a very poor knowledge base and makes use of an imperfect search engine in hopes of getting answers. Needless to say that Alice is incapable of understanding such human emotions and expressions as love, irony, sarcasm, figurative speech etc. The list can go on, turning this text into a blow to Alice that would leave it crippled and thrashing in agony. Alice is still “raw” as a product, which is evident if it cannot even answer simple queries without finger swipes.

The market is still imperfect in this regard and there are no solid offerings. If even Yandex with its immense budgets is still incapable of providing a quality product, the problem becomes evident. It is amazing, though, how Yandex perceived the market to be so primitive so as to demonstrate such a poor quality product to the president of the Russian Federation.

It may well be difficult to teach a construct, but not to the point that Alice was incapable of discerning similar context when asked about the weather and barometric pressure.
