The Dhaka Christian Cemetery which is still in use today, was established by Portuguese traders in the 17th century. Less than 1% of the population are Christian, 91% are Sunni Muslims, 8% Hindu

There are many notable graves here, that I just could not find, soldiers, airmen and the first female balloonist to rise above the ground in Bangladesh.
The tomb of "Columbo Sahib"
The largest and probably oldest structure in the graveyard, what would have been an elaborate and grand mausoleum, it is said to be the resting place of "Columbo Sahib"
But no one really knows the true identity of "Columbo Sahib"
Some say that he was a merchant who came to Dhaka from Colombo, Ceylon. (Now Sri Lanka) to trade and became very wealthy. becoming known locally as Columbo Sahib.
There are no inscriptions at all ever found to even give a hint.
It is now in a complete state of disrepair, being reclaimed by nature, the gripping vines perhaps holding it together
Elizabeth David, nee, Manook was the daughter of a wealthy Armenian merchant. She bore eight children in her short life, dying aged 29 of cholera. her husband Marcar was known as the "Merchant-Prince of East Bengal". Just a year after her death, he left with his children to live in London, he died in London in 1893 and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.
Her tomb is said to be the finest surviving example of Christian funerary monument in marble in the country.

Born in Aberdeen Scotland, he was at his death commissioner of Dahka, he died of cholera. His son Alexander William Abercrombie, rose to te rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the British Army, he was part of the BEF in August 2014, being captured at the retreat from Mons. Died in 1915 a POW at Magdeburg. Germany
