A seaside town and port for cruise liners Saranda sits on the "Albanian Riviera" and is seen as an undiscovered gem away from the popular Tui type resorts in the over crowded Med.
You know, the places were the great unwashed go, getting up at 6:00am rushing to put a towel on a sunbed, then going back to bed for a few hours before arising to stuff their distended beer bellies ( and that's just the women) full to bursting with breakfast from the buffet, over loading their plates and wasting more than they eat. Then moaning it is still 3 hours to lunch on the all inclusive package they are on, still never mind the bar is open chucking as much booze down their necks as they can before collapsing into some tattooist chair and have another tacky tramp stamp, inked onto their flabby white flesh. And still the sunbeds have not been used.
Travel snob or realist???
The sun was still high, the shadows starting to lengthen by the time I got to the promenade, the overnight hotel was some distance out of the town.
Right place, right time.
There was a very pleasant time strolling amongst these classic vintage cars on show.
Now, I am not a petrol head at all, I just drive my car fast, very fast and sadly have the points to prove it, but it will be 3 less on there on the 20th August, breathe easier, foot to the floor.
Seems like there were lot of big bad ass American beauties here, don't ask miles per gallon; ask gallons per mile. But oh my days what lines they had........
.......and proper engines too. As my old dad said, "If you can't fix it with a spanner and a hammer, then it's an electrical problem"
My kind of car, not a fucking LCD screen, camera, warning bleepers, self parking bollocks, low fuel alarm, collision warning alarm, or tree hugging env. nazis "low battery charge" warning to be seen anywhere. Just get some petrol in the tank and drive! Shame the top speed is only 60mph.
Oh now then, that's a bit faster.
Head turners without a doubt, excusing my terminology but, yup, definitely fanny magnets
Glad I got here so early, as the promenade filled up later and the crowds grew, it seemed to be a jolly night as there were lots of things going on.
There was a small market of sorts set up further along the clean well maintained promenade.
Local folk all out dressed smartly, not a chav in sight.
Schoolchildren attempting to put on a display of local folk dancing, some enthusiastic, some disinterested and wanting to play on their mobile phones, and well, one young man, has seen something that has him gobsmacked!!
Strike up the band
I am the music man I come from down your way and I can play....
There was a parade forming, thought I would stay and watch
Now, watching the teacher trying to line this lot up was like watching someone herding sheep, FFS all they had to do was hold a balloon letter up, he gave up and still one is wrong. sheesh. i think it should simply say "Yes! Sarande"
and off we go!!!!!!!
.... The trumpet
Plod doesn't look happy, I bet he would rather be harassing motorists, oh no sorry, wrong country that's just the UK, where the crime rate is rising and detection rates are dropping.
Good to see kids taking the art of chess seriously, and not focussing their attention on mind numbing shite like plants v zombies, minecraft or fortnite.
Back where I started, the sun has gone, fare thee well Saranda, enjoyed, but never to return.
Right place: right time.
